Alcoholism

with 3 comments

I shake because I drink
& I drink to stop the shaking

What kind of fool have I become
My honesty is only faking

When I think I’ve got control
I find I’m sorely mistaken
If I maintain this abusive role
I’ll lose all the friends
I’ve been makin’

Alcohol will sneak up on you
housewife, hippie or cop
After years of casual tipping
You’ll find yourself drinking
till you drop
The next day you’ll apologize
to the friends that carried you through
But as years go by
you’ll lobotomize
And your friends will become too few

  2. One of my favorite lines is in a song by Paul Thorn which states:

    I like my artificial courage
A shot of whiskey and beer
It makes me feel like superman
I been leaning on it for years
    I take my morning medication
Hair of the dog and I’m fine
I swear I’m gonna’ lay my demons down
I really mean it this time
    I’m gonna’ walk
    Without my crutches some day
    Yeah, I’m gonna’ walk
    Without my crutches some day

How well his words and yours address this issue..kudos!
