in the beginning

we had

such

potent possibilities

the air

itself

pulsated

and resonated

with

a reality

I didn’t know

existed

and so

it was easy

to surrender

to the surreal

seduction

of the senses

your presence

presented

I will

miss

the

respite

your

smile

offered me

I will

miss

it’s

serene

call

to sanity’s shores

I will

miss

the possibilities

your

love

created

and

the

safety

your arms

represented

to my

soul

and

I will ache

in

the empty

places

your absence

will create

I will

grieve

the what weres

and

keen when

your memory

creeps

up

unexpectedly

into

the corners

of

my eyes

I will

hiss and suck

in my breath

when the

ghost of who

we were

walks past

me

in the form

of another couple

in their barest beginnings

when

possibilities

and surrender

to sensation

are as obvious

as the suns glow

but I

will not

miss

what

us

let

we

become

  4. This piece is layered
    like a gift
that when you get to the last piece
    to peel back,
    you are satisfied
    for having lived through each
    awakening!
